Your Legacy to Others Starts
with Planned Giving

Planned Giving

Raleigh Rescue Mission serves the homeless as a conduit of the generosity of compassionate people in the Greater Raleigh area.  As a partner in ministry during your lifetime, you help ensure that our services and recovery programs meet the needs of countless homeless men, women and children.  Now, you can extend your support beyond your lifetime through Legacy of Hope.

Legacy of Hope, Raleigh Rescue Mission’s planned giving program, was created to educate our friends and recognize partners who remember the Mission with a “legacy” or estate gift.

Here are some of the simplest ways you can give:

Gift of Cash
Made during your lifetime, cash gifts could be deducted up to 50% of your contribution base.

Bequest Through Will
You can make a bequest to Raleigh Rescue Mission of a dollar amount, specific property, a percentage of your estate or the remainder of your estate after taking care of your loved ones.

Gift of Life Insurance
Making the Mission a beneficiary of part or all of a life insurance policy is a simple way to make a significant gift!  You may receive a tax deduction for the cash surrender value reducing your income tax liability I the year of the gift.

Retirement Account
You may realize significant estate tax savings when you designate Raleigh Rescue Mission as a beneficiary.   This is a tax-efficient way to make a gift because of the income tax savings and charitable deduction allowed your estate.

Gift of Appreciated Stock, Bonds or Mutual Funds
Appreciated stock, held more than one year, makes an excellent charitable gift.  You could avoid capital gains taxes and receive a tax deduction for the value of the gift up to 30% of your contribution base.  Bonds and mutual funds are similar to appreciated stock in their tax treatment.  State, municipal and U.S. government bonds welcome.

Life Estate in Home
Like cash, gifts of property can be simple to make.  However, due to some special tax considerations and the possible impact on our operations, check with our director of development before giving property valued at $500 or more.  Making a gift of your house or farm to Raleigh Rescue Mission has definite estate tax advantages, and often the donor can continue to live in the family home the rest of his or her life.

Charitable Remainder Trust
Donors can select the rate of return from these income arrangements and also choose a fixed or fluctuating annual payment.  Capital gains taxes can be avoided and you receive a tax deduction based on the age of the income recipient and the rate of return.

Charitable Lead Trust
Assets (cash or securities) are transferred to a trust that pays income from the fund to Raleigh Rescue Mission for a number of years you determine.  At the time period’s end, the trust terminates and the assets are given back to the person(s) you name.  The income tax deduction is based on payments made annually to charity.

Have you already remembered Raleigh Rescue Mission with a legacy gift?  Please let us know so we can say thank you!  If not, please contact us to learn more at bruces@raleighrescue.org.

Why I Am a Legacy of Hope Partner

Azalee Sain, a charter partner of Raleigh Rescue Mission’s Legacy of Hope, has served as a board member and volunteer with the Mission since the mid-1960s.  Azalee remembered Raleigh Rescue Mission in her will to ensure the Mission is there to give hope for future generations.  “The Mission represents hope and I know whatever I give will help keep that hope alive.”

“I ate at the Mission with the residents recently.  To see those children, to know they were eating a warm meal and getting a decent place to sleep while their parents received training and Bible study — I knew it lit a flame of hope for them.  As a Legacy of Hope partner, I can make sure that touch of hope is there year after year.”

Please check with your attorney or financial planner before making planned gifts to Raleigh Rescue Mission.
