Director, Volunteer Ministry - Full Time

Job Summary:

Manages the Volunteer Ministry, identifies and plans strategies and enhancements, and coordinates ongoing improvements

Reports To:

Director of Development

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages the recruitment, selection and training of volunteers. Develops and coordinates volunteer recognition and retention practices.
  • Develops and cultivates "Vocational Volunteer Relationships" to support the Mission's new strategy, "Remote Volunteer-led Vocational Training Programs".
  • Coordinates:
    • Identification and qualification of volunteer vocational trainers
    • Identification of training sites for the training programs
    • Development of training materials
    • The interface with other Wake County agencies that refer students or otherwise support these training programs
  • Cultivates Mission donors (financial donors, in-kind donors, volunteers, prayer warriors) as opportunities arise, yielding deeper relationships and greater Mission support.
  • Promptly processes volunteer service inquiries; includes but not limited to qualifying individuals and groups for volunteer service and determining appropriate volunteer service placements.
  • Facilitates the identification of volunteer service opportunities and associated requirements in collaboration with Mission staff. Develops and manages documented role descriptions for all volunteer services.
  • Schedules volunteers based on volunteer placement, Mission staff needs and agreements. Coordinates the communication of volunteer service schedules within the Mission.
  • Coordinates the aspects of the Mission's Holiday events that are assigned to this position.
  • Manages the "In-Kind Giving" program; cultivating donors whenever possible.
  • Coordinates ongoing Volunteer Ministry publicity and awareness communications. Oversees the creation and use of all volunteer ministry support materials, including brochures, fliers, etc.
  • Conducts community presentations on the Mission, its ministries, and gives RRM tours.
  • Maintains and improves the documentation system reflecting all appropriate aspects and processes of the Mission's Volunteer Ministry

Job Skills & Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience preferably in the non-profit sector
  • A good understanding of non-profit development
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and holidays
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative leadership style; the ability to foster communication and teamwork.
  • Highly creative, strategic thinker with a heart for ministry service
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision. Excellent planning, administrative & organizational skills, time management efficiency and careful attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely and effectively engage audiences
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office products with emphasis on word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, publication and contact management software competencies
