W.E. Mangum Children's
Development Center

Homeless children, ages 1–5, staying at Raleigh Rescue Mission find loving attention and opportunities for learning and fun in our W.E. Mangum Children’s Development Center. To encourage better parenting, mothers are required to volunteer six hours in the center each month.

The center works with up to 10 children on any given day and provides:

• Screening for development delays

• Referrals to other agencies for early intervention and therapy

HighReach Caterpillar curriculum to promote kindergarten readiness skills

• Positive role-modeling for parents in discipline, communication, teaching and training

• Field trips such as library story time and museums

When parents leave the Mission for permanent housing, or complete coursework at the Learning Center, the W.E. Mangum Children’s Development Center provides extended care to encourage further stability in the children’s lives.
